Pokémon Snap: The Gritty Reboot

Gotta capture ’em all! In celebration of the 20th anniversary and 3D theatrical re-release of Jurassic Park in 2013, we paid tribute by recreating the trailer with a unique twist.

Drawing parallels between Nintendo 64’s one-off Pokémon photo-taking bonanza, Pokémon Snap, and John Hammond’s clone-dinosaur park, our trailer follows Todd Snap’s dramatic and dangerous trek through the wilds of Professor Oak’s Pokémon Island. Shooting on location and bringing 3D characters to life, all while paying homage to one of our favorite films of all time made this project a ton a fun. The video was viewed well over a million times, and was shared by the likes of Kotaku, Mashable, and Nintendo Life.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Take a look at the behind the scenes process of how we did our best to transform forested PNW landscapes into the tropical terrain of Isla Nublar/Pokémon Island.

VISUAL EFFECTS: BEFORE & AFTER

Below, you can check out the final video before and after our visual effects treatment:

JURASSIC PARK VS. POKEMON SNAP

Does our Pokémon Snap trailer feel familiar? Compare it to the Jurassic Park 3D re-release trailer, which we intentionally mirrored nearly shot-for-shot.
